What is Zyban


Zyban is prescription drug used to quit smoking. It contains bupropion hydrochloride, the same main substance for Wellbutrin, Wellbutrin SR and Wellbutrin XL. Doctors prescribe Wellbutrin to treat depression. Glaxo Smith Kline "repackaged" Wellbutrin with a new dosage and marketed it as Zyban, the quit smoking drug.

Unlike nicotine replacement therapy, Zyban does not substitute one form of nicotine for another. The active ingredient reduces the severity of nicotine cravings and physical withdrawal symptoms.

It worked for me and I have not smoked for almost 8 months now. I still get the odd craving, but I just think about something else and the cravings go away. The only real problem I had was I was feeling dizzy and out of sorts all the time.

In the first week you feel 'chilled out', however in my second week when the dose doubled I suffered the following: Horrendous thirst, especially at night with a very dry throat. Sleep consists of about three hours a night - the rest of the time is spent drinking water!! Depression about 2-3 days after giving up smoking. The depression isnt just because you have given up. I felt distant and out of it and I knew it was the tablets. The side effects nearly made me give up but in the end put up with them because I really want to stay of the cigs and the tablets ARE working.

  • Avoid it if you have epilepsy or you abruptly discontinue using alcohol or sedatives such as Valium.
  • Using Wellbutrin for depression and Zyban for cease smoking together can enhance the danger of developing a seizure.
  • Stop drinking alcoholic drinks while taking Zyban.
  • Zyban may reduce your ability to drive or operate machinery safely.
  • Prior to taking Zyban, ask your doctor if you have decreased kidney function, decreased liver function, diabetes, had a head injury, high blood pressure, alcoholism, or history of psychiatric illness.

Zyban Dosage


Maximum daily dosage is 300 mg Always stick to the prescribed dosage.

How To Take Zyban


Don't chew, crush or break Zyban tablets. They are to be taken orally.

While on Zyban, you can continue smoking. Continual usage of this smoking cessation drug after quit date is encouraged. Unfortunately, many smokers smoke again after awhile.
